Old Man's Lament  (Ken Nicol)

It's the events in your life that make you who you are

Old Man's Lament

When I was out walking, an old man I met

Who spoke of his life with so much regret

He told me his stories, as time did allow

And said unto me

He said unto me

If only I’d know all the things I know now.

He talked of the dreams he carried with youth

The hopes and the wishes that never came true

Now his disillusion lay there on his brow

He said unto me

He said unto me

If only I’d know all the things I know now

And there was a young love, he fell for her charms

All he’d ever wanted was there in his arms

There she would’ve stayed but for loves broken vows

And he said to me

He said unto me

If only I’d know all the things I know now

asked him politely, may I tell you this

the wealth of your knowledge cannot be dismissed

And if all of these things had been different somehow

say unto you

say unto you

You wouldn’t be all the things you are now

You wouldn’t be all the things you are now.
