Cabbage Hall Fields (Phil Cool)
Cabbage Hall Fields (Phil Cool)
Childhood memories of a place now an industrial estate by the M61
Cabbage Hall Fields
Ride your bike down
Or you may never get the chance again
As life goes fast and nothing lasts
Forever little boy
Down the fields on my jack
I’m goin fishing for the stickleback
Then runnin free home for tea
Where my ma waits for me
Don’t disturb my slumber
don’t wake me from my sleep
cause I’m dreamin of the valley
where the mighty Chor runs deep
We’re talking of a time long gone
But you know I’m not the only one
Who remembers fun with lots of sun
And flowers everywhere
My dog Rover went away
But I know I’ll get him back some day
And on bogey wheels and down sacred fields
Forever we will play
Don’t disturb my slumber
Don’t wake me from my sleep
Cause I’m dreamin of the valley
Where the mighty Chor runs deep
Climbing on the leaning tree
Is just a distant memory
But I’ll close my eyes and drift along
As the clouds roll by
To the sky lark’s song
And every sound of the countryside fills my ears
Down those cabbage hall’s where the blackbirds king
Home of water vole and the whittle spring
Is the source of the river that flows with my tears
So ride your bike down
Or you may never get the chance again
As life goes fast and nothing lasts
Forever little boy
