Insobriety (Ken Nicol)

An acoustic version of a song originally Ken Nicol's CD 13 Reasons

Insobriety

Awake first thing at dawn

Two of everything in sight

I asked myself this morning

What did I say last night?

I exercised my arm

Was unsteady on my feet

Had one more for the road

And insobriety

As drunk as any sailor

Three sheets to the wind

A sea of empty vessels

The mountain of my sins

Uncertain and unstable

Down upon my knees

A life under the table

And insobriety

All your devils and your demons

That follow you by day

To keep them at arms length

There’s just no other way

It’s only when I’m drinking

It’s then I don’t pretend

I say just what I’m thinking

Everybody is my friend

And if god loves a drunk

He must be fond of me

I’ll drink to the almighty

And insobriety

Now don’t you try and help me

Or show me right from wrong

Don’t you take me to a place

Where I never did belong

I think about my first drink

With no pity or regret

And now I don’t remember

What I was trying to forget

And when I’m dead and buried

On my stone will be:

Here’s to dissolution

And insobriety
